Senior Golf

Girton Golf Club has a thriving and very popular Seniors Section. We welcome members whatever their standard and offer a friendly and inclusive round of golf to anyone over 55 who wants to enjoy themselves on, and off, the golf course.

Our match and competition activities carry a charge to cover costs, but there is no annual subscription.

Primary activities centre around a “roll-up” held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings throughout the year, when we play various formats in 3- or 4-ball groups. There are about 60 members associated with the Seniors, but roll-up attendance is usually between 20 & 30. To take part all that’s necessary is to be in the Club Bar at 7.30am to take part in the draw for partners.

Once a month throughout the summer there is a club-handicap qualifier round played off yellow tees.

During the year we stage 10 trophy competitions, including singles and doubles knockouts and a 10-card Eclectic. We also organise two Away days to other courses in the county, comprising a morning match followed by lunch.

During the summer months we play 14 other local clubs, home and away. Again comprising a morning match followed by lunch. Team selection is not solely based on ability, but instead attempts to ensure that all get at least a game or two during the season.

For information on all activities keep an eye on the Seniors’ notice board in the gents’ changing room.

A Message from the Senior's Captain

This coming year, Club Captain Steve Andrews, Ladies Captain Kim Andrews and Seniors Captain Kevin Bradbury have decided to support one local charity.

East Anglia’s Children’s Hospice - EACH supports children, young people and their families with the challenges that having a life-threatening condition can often bring. We provide care and support wherever the family wishes – in families’ own homes, in hospital or at one of our hospices in Milton, Quidenham or Ipswich.

Caring for a child with a life-threatening illness, often for 24 hours a day, seven days a week over many years, can put a huge strain on family life. Often a child will need constant care through the day and night, and while families willingly invest love, energy and attention, life becomes completely governed by the relentless timetable of nursing and medical needs. Relationships can suffer, careers may have to be abandoned, healthy brothers and sisters can feel left out and regular family activities and holidays can be rare. On top of all this, families often feel alone and afraid in their grief.

Girton Golf Club are proud to be associated with such a worthwhile and local charity and we are sure that during the coming year once again the members continue with their generosity in supporting those in need. For further information regarding the charity please visit the charities website
